SCHERTZ - Shiner overcame a three-run deficit and claimed a Class 1A bi-district win over Charlotte at the Clemens High School field.
Charlotte (17-6) scored three runs off of starter Garet Pustka in the top of the third inning. But the Comanches, who had 10 hits, bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the third and single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
"We had some clutch hits," Shiner coach Daniel Boedeker said. "The kids hung in there and battled back. I'm proud of them for playing seven innings."
Scott Shimek had RBI singles in the third and fourth innings, and Ryan Kloesel added an RBI single in the fifth. Russell Boothe had two hits for Shiner and Pustka finished with 11 strikeouts.
Shiner improved to 16-8 and advanced to the area round against Ben Bolt. The teams will play a best-of-three series with Game 1 set for Wednesday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m., Game 2 set for Friday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m., and Game 3, if necessary scheduled for Saturday, May 22, at 1 p.m., at Floresville.
