HITCHCOCK - The state-ranked Shiner Comanches travelled to Hitchcock (near Galveston) for their final non-district regular season game on Friday night (September 23, 2016).
The Comanches took the lead in the first quarter on a long drive capped by an 8-yard TD scamper by Dadrian Taylor. But turnovers plagued Shiner deep in Bulldog territory and they gave up a long Hitchcock play in the second to trail 8-6 at the half.
Hitchcock scored again in the third quarter, but Shiner did not score.
Down 14-7 after three, the Comanches responded -- running back Charles Haynes connected on a halfback pass to a wide open Ty Boedeker who streaked 42 yards for the touchdown.
After holding the Bulldogs to a three-and-out, Shiner drove down the field again and Comanche QB Brandon Cerny punched it in for the score. In an attempt to pad their 20-14 lead, Shiner went for two, but Cerny's two-point conversion pass attempt was intercepted.
Aided by a personal foul penalty on Hitchock on the following drive, the Comanche defense backed the home squad to their own 13 yard line with under two minutes remaining. But, on third-down-and-long, Hitchcock QB Michael Parker hit LeChristopher Wilson on a quick slant pass, who ran untouched to the Shiner goal line, knotting the game at 20-all. The two-pointer was good and Hitchcock took a 22-20 lead with only a minute left.
Shiner's ensuing drive was stopped by a Cerny interception throw, and Hitchcock ran out the clock to secure the win.
Hitchcock QB Michael Parker led all rushers, threw a TD pass, and scored the late two-point conversion to secure the win. Dadrian Taylor led the Comanches with 18 rushes for 120 yards.
