SHINER - Shiner senior Chad Neubauer has been around football long enough to know the importance of taking advantage of opportunities.

As a result, he brings the same approach into every game.
"I wanted to be aggressive and get our team up so we could get the early lead," he said. "Then, late in the game we don't have a situation where it's only one score. I push my hardest to get everything I can."
Neubauer rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns and anchored another outstanding defensive performance to lead Shiner to a 35-7 homecoming win over Goliad on Friday night at Comanche Stadium.
"I really love this team," Neubauer said of Shiner, which is ranked No. 7 in Class 2A and improved to 3-0. "I think our progress is great right now."
Neubauer carried 20 times and scored on runs of 13 and 7 yards in the fourth quarter.
"Each game it's whatever it is," said Shiner coach Steven Cerny. "But that's still what we do best - the veer and the sweep. There are other things we can keep people honest with. But when it's all on the line, that's what we've got to go to."
The Comanches bolted to a 14-0 halftime lead, before Goliad (1-2) became the first team this season to score on them.
The Tigers converted a fake punt when John Dorsett threw for 16 yards to Colby Zamzow.
The first down set up DJ Taylor's 24-yard touchdown pass to Tangle Johnson with 6:59 left in the third quarter.
"Early we had a couple of opportunities - we still scored on two of three possessions, but we missed an opportunity there," Cerny said. "In the second half, we had the fumble but still played great defense.

"We talked about them doing that fake all week long," he added. "We had a little confusion out there. It should have been a timeout. When they converted out there, that's what gave them momentum and all of a sudden you're saying, 'Look out.' But we answered and when we answered with that touchdown in the fourth quarter, I think that was the difference in the game."
Shiner controlled the ball, running 72 plays to 47 for Goliad. The Comanches rushed for 375 yards and also scored on runs of 8 yards by Dadrian Taylor, 21 yards by Justin Stein and 10 yards by Brandon Cerny.
The Comanches converted four times on third-and-long and twice on fourth down.
"The first half we played good defense and had them third-and-long and needed to get off the field, but again it wasn't the defense," said Goliad coach Kyle Taylor. "Our offense is struggling right now. We've just got to stay together and keep getting better. We've got a lot of people who haven't been on Friday nights."
Shiner limited Goliad to 170 total yards and eight first downs. The Comanches seemed to catch a second wind and broke the game open in the final quarter.
"We had seven guys going both ways and it's still a humid night," Cerny said. "We need some cooler weather. It's not a matter of conditioning or working hard. When you're in a physical game like that, it wears you down. It's not like we're sitting in space and playing finesse football. We're playing physical football with what we do, so they're going to get tired."
