Two Shiner Comanche offensive linemen were selected Monday to the Class 1A all-state football team chosen by the Associated Press Sports Editors.
Shiner's Dylan Hagens, 70 above, and teammate Will Pekar, 79 above left, were named to the Associated Press' Class 1A all-state first team on Monday.
Seniors Dylan Hagens and Will Pekar received first-team all-state honors and were the lone Advocate-area athletes named to the elite squad. Hagens had 20 knockdowns and graded at 88 percent this season for the Comanches, while Pekar had 32 knockdowns and also graded at 88 percent.
Shiner finished the year at 10-3 after falling to Chilton 24-0 in the Class 1A regional playoffs.
Axtell quarterback Kevin Neal, who had nearly 3,000 yards and totaled 35 touchdowns this season, was selected the Class 1A offensive player of the year.
Celeste linebacker David Lakeman was named the defensive player of the year. Lakeman, a senior, had 156 tackles including 42 for losses, six blocked kicks, three interceptions, two sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
