Shiner senior Chris Baer was selected the Pace Foods/Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine Class 1A player of the year Friday.

Quarterback Chase Daniel of Southlake Carroll was named the Class 5A player of the year, while Kilgore running back Keith Gilliam was selected in Class 4A and Gilmer quarterback-wide receiver Manuel Johnson was chosen in Class 3A.

Boyd quarterback Garrett Tidwell represented Class 2A, while Calvert running back-linebacker Brian Ford represented 6-man and Heritage Christian running back Ryan Polite was selected in TAPPS.

Pace Foods and Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine announced the winners for its 2004 Players of the Year for each classification of UIL football on Friday. Finalists in each class were announced in November from more than 1,400 Texas high school varsity football programs.

Since 1972, Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine has presented the Player of the Year Awards, which recognize the state's top senior player in each classification. The 2004 Player of the Year Awards were again selected in balloting by a panel of statewide media.

Representatives of Pace Foods and Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine will present trophies to both the Players of the Year and their respective schools in the coming weeks.
