CIBOLO - Shiner scored four runs to erase a two-run lead against Center Point in Game 1, and Ashley Shimek went the distance in two straight games to help the Lady Comanches sweep their way to the regional finals on Friday night in Cibolo.
"We just kept battling and kept battling, and they made some key mistakes that let us back into the game," said coach Brandon Siegel.
The 8-4 win in Game 1 and 7-4 win in Game 2 were both nice, but the coach said the team didn't play up to its potential in the second game, despite leading the whole way.
"We left the bases loaded three times, we didn't get the hits we needed," Siegel said. "We still won, but the score wasn't indicative of how we played."
Ultimately, Siegel said the Lady Comanches' success boiled down to being able to notch runs when they needed it most and taking advantage of mistakes made by their opponent.
This included the fourth inning, when the Shiner scored four runs to overtake a 4-2 deficit early.
"A lot of the things that went our way was that we made the plays when we needed to," Siegel said. "When Center Point needed it, they didn't."
Shiner will face the winner of Johnson City and Mart.
