SHINER - Brian Sixto and Joey Wiatrek hooked up on a game-winning touchdown pass with 10:43 to play as the Falls City Beavers knocked off the Shiner Comanches 23-18 in a District 30-1A matchup.
Sixto found Wiatrek on a 33-yard strike after the Comanches took an 18-14 lead in the third quarter. Brian Despain added the point after for a 21-18 advantage. The Beavers then picked up a safety when the Comanches' punter stepped out of the end zone with 5:48 left.
Bryan Franklin, who had 92 yards on 15 carries, put Shiner (5-3, 3-1 in district) up 6-0 with a 35-yard run with 58 seconds left in the first quarter.
Weston Zunker who carried the most punch for the Beavers (4-4, 3-1) rushing for 236 yards on 32 carries, answered with a 1-yard run early in the second quarter. Sixto then put the Beavers up 8-6 when he connected with Derek Sturm on the two-point conversion.
Zunker then sprinted 52 yards with 2:50 left to give the Beavers a 14-6 halftime lead.
Franklin put the Comanches back into the game with a 14-yard run with 2:21 left in the third quarter and Chris Baer, who had 106 yards on 10 carries, added a 35-yard scamper with 15 seconds left.
