Number One Shiner rolls past D'Hanis

D'HANIS -- Quarterback Travis Wright passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as the top-ranked Shiner Comanches routed the D'Hanis Cowboys, 64-8, Saturday night in a District 30-1A game.

Wright completed six of eight passes for 151 yards and no interceptions. He threw touchdown passes of 43 and 51 yards to Elvis Brooks and 26 yards to Eric Murphy in the first half as the Comanches (7-0, 2-0) took a 50-8 halftime lead. Wright also scored on a 20-yard run in the third quarter.

Comanche running back Ray Gates also shined, rambling for 212 yards on 13 carries and scoring four touchdowns while teammate Murphy rushed for 112 yards on just four carries and scored on a 68-yard run in the third quarter. Gates scored on runs of 30, 11, 5 and 67 yards.

D'Hanis (1-5, 0-2) scored in the first quarter on a safety when the ball was snapped over the Shiner punter's head and he smothered the ball in the end zone.

The Cowboys scored again late in the first half as Brandon Weimers caught a 22-yard pass from quarterback Josh Herrmann, who completed 13 of 40 passes for 233 yards.

Herrmann also had five passes intercepted - three by Jason Kaspar and one each by Brett Siegel and Dustin Ulcak.

The Comanches will host Charlotte on Friday while D'Hanis visits Runge.
