Pustka leads way in 41-27 triumph

SHINER - Garet Pustka rushed for two touchdowns, threw for another and intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter to clinch the Shiner Comanches' 41-27 victory over the Schulenburg Shorthorns.
Shiner (2-0) had to overcome a four-touchdown passing performance by Schulenburg quarterback Jeff Jurica, who put the Shorthorns (0-2) up 7-0 with a 24-yard TD pass to Jason Dees with 3:20 left in the first quarter.
Shiner quickly answered with Pustka's 59-yard touchdown pass to Casey Coleman just 1:35 later to tie the game at 7-7.
Pustka, who rushed for 169 yards on 20 carries, broke loose on a 25- yard touchdown run to put the Comanches up 14-7.
Schulenburg answered, however, with another Jurica-to-Dees touchdown pass play, this time from 25 yards out, to knot the score at 14-14.
But the Comanches used some trickery to score before halftime. Chris Baer took a pitch from Pustka and threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Coleman.
The third of Scott Shimek's five extra points on the night sent the Comanches into halftime with a 21-14 lead.
Shiner pulled away in the third quarter on Baer's 12-yard touchdown run and Pustka's 2-yard TD run.
Schulenburg refused to give up. Jurica tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Grant Gallo and, after Shiner's Kensley Wright scored on a 4-yard run, Jurica threw a 12-yard TD pass to Dontae Turner to pull the Shorthorns within 41-27 with 6:59 left in the game.
Schulenburg was driving again when it attempted a halfback pass by Turner, which was intercepted by Pustka. Shiner ran out the clock to preserve the win.
