POTH - Shiner scored the winning touchdown on a fake field goal play on fourth-and-goal from the 6-yard line and handed Poth its first regular season loss in two years with a 14-7 setback.
Quentin Wright tossed the deciding scoring pass to Desmond Brooks on the trick play with 4:56 remaining, and R.J. Lester added the second of two extra points.
On the decisive fourth-quarter drive, Shiner (1-0) held the ball for seven minutes and 36 seconds, and got 41 yards from quarterback Garet Pustka on the drive.
Pustka finished with 20 carries for 71 yards, but the Comanches' workhorse was running back Chris Baer, who had 17 rushes for 135 yards. Shiner scored in the first on a 54-yard run by Baer, both Poth (0-1) answered with a 38-yard TD run by Jason Weed with 1:32 left in the first quarter. Weed added the extra point for Poth. Weed led the Pirates with 144 yards on 16 carries.
