PFLUGERVILLE - Shiner's strong ground game was too much for the Goldthwaite Eagles, lifting the Comanches to a 33-7 1A Division I regional victory.
After a scoreless first quarter, Josh Greathouse scored first for Shiner (9-1) with a 27-yard run. Quarterback Matthew Hibbs followed in the second with a 3-yard scoring run.
The Comanches scored twice more in the third, first on a Greathouse 52-yard run and then again when Hibbs found Tyler Forest for a touchdown from 19 yards out.
Shiner scored late in the fourth on Lance Otto's 5-yard run.
Goldthwaite (10-2) didn't score until 28 seconds left in the game when quarterback Walt Clifton hit Trey Horton for a 13-yard pass.
Greathouse had the biggest night for Shiner, rushing for 160 yards on 13 carries. Adam Kalich also had big numbers, rushing 19 times for 138 yards.
Despite scoring only seven points, Eagles quarterback Clifton was able to throw for 222 yards, completing 14 passes on 23 attempts with one interception. But Goldthwaite struggled keeping hold of the ball, coughing up four fumbles to Shiner's defense.
