WEIMAR - Shiner was in double figures in runs, hits, and runners left on base, but none of those matched Scott Shimek's strikeout totals against Fayetteville.

Shimek struck out 15 while pitching a four-hitter to lead the Comanches to a 12-2 Class 1A bi-district victory on Tuesday night at Veterans Memorial Park's Strickland Field.

Shiner improved to 23-3 on the season and advanced to the area round against the winner of tonight's game betwewen Benavides and Kingsville Academy. The Lions ended the season at 14-10.

Shimek took a two-hit shutout into the bottom of the seventh before Fayetteville had two hits and scored a pair of unearned runs.

"He competed well," Shiner coach Daniel Boedeker said of Shimek.

"He's done a good job all season. He's our leader. It all starts with him on the mound."

Shimek struck out the side three times, and twice had four strikeouts in an inning. He also had three of Shiner's 12 hits, including two doubles and three RBIs.

"I'm proud of the way we hit the ball," Boedeker said. "This is a good way to start. I'm sure we had some nerves, but we kept playing ball and I was proud of that."

The Comanches took the lead for good in the top of the first inning when Justin Joslin singled, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on the first of two hits by Ryan Kloesel.

Shiner made it 5-0 in the third with four hits, including Dylan Hagens' two-run double. Hagens was making his first apperance of the season after suffering a shoulder injury in football and went 2-for-4 with three RBIs as a designated hitter.

Shimek's first double and an RBI single by Hagens brought home two runs in the sixth before the Comanches broke the game open with five runs in the seventh, two coming on Shimek's second double.

"We had opportunities early to score some runs, which we didn't do," Boedeker said. "We just need to keep putting the ball in play consistently like we did and we'll score runs."
