Shiner’s ground game prevails over Shorthorns’ aerial attack

Nearly all of the Comanches' 343 yards of offense came rushing while almost 80 percent of Schulenburg’s 343 resulted via the pass but it was the home team, Shiner, that held the narrow three-point edge on the scoreboard last Friday.

Jacob Stafford capped off a six-play, 44-yard scoring drive, all on the ground, with a 2-yard touchdown run to put Shiner up for good 27-24 with 2:53 left. He ended the final Shorthorn threat by batting down a fourth-down pass near midfield.
Three other Comanches gained more yards rushing than Stafford, including Evel Jones' 132 yards and Trevion Flowers' 115. Shiner only tried two passes, one a short swing pass to Jones and the other an incomplete halfback pass by Stafford.
"They’ve got some exceptional athletes," head coach Tommy Bludau said. "They’ve got a good running team. Yes, you do know they’re going to run and they’ll tell you: stop it. We did get handled physically at times."
