Coming off of a big win at Falls City on Oct. 17, the Comanches were looking to make corrections and bring intensity.

On Friday against Pettus, Shiner accomplished both in a 61-6 win to improve to 8-0 and 3-0 in district play.

"We upped the intensity at the practice this week and tried to get better. There was some things we were not happy with in the Falls City game that needed to be worked on. It is not all going to be fixed in one week but we took a step in the right direction," Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "I am happy that everyone got to contribute to this win and get on film; I am also happy on the energy and focus we had tonight. The players came out of the locker room like they were on a mission and got it accomplished."

Shiner had several players out due to various health concerns but did not miss a beat against Pettus as many more were ready to fill in.

"That has been difficult but we have a lot of guys out here that can play football, and we are fortunate to be able to put in guys that have worked really hard in practice. We feel confident with the guys we put in there," Boedeker said. "Playing those guys will make us better in the long run because with those injuries, those guys are getting experience and helping the team with depth."

Jace Caddell led the Shiner ground game with 197 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns with Quincy Jones also topping 100 yards on the ground with 120 on four carries and three touchdowns; Jones also had a kickoff returned for a touchdown. Clayton Fric and Jarvis Williams also added scores on the ground as the Comanches had 397 yards on 24 rushes for an average of 16.5 yards a carry.

The Eagles were held to 56 yards, 58 yards through the air as their ground game produced minus-2 yards on 30 carries.

The Comanches started hot with 33 points in the first quarter.

Pettus took the opening kickoff and punted after gaining 1 yard on three plays, and the punt traveled a mere 12 yards. On Shiner's first play from the Pettus 43, Jones took a toss and raced 43 yards for his first touchdown to put Shiner ahead 7-0 at the 9:52 mark.

Shiner forced another three-and-out and started at its 48 after Pettus had a 25-yard punt. Jones went up the middle on a handoff and went 52 yards for a 13-0 lead after a missed extra point.

Shiner later returned another Pettus punt to the plus-24 in three plays with a Jones 21-yard run at the 5:39 mark.

Shiner's next offensive series started at the Eagle 25 after a 7-yard punt. Caddell had a 3-yard run, followed by Fric's rushes of 2 and 13 and then Caddell finished the drive with a 7-yard run with 2:28 left in the quarter for a 26-0 Shiner lead.

Shiner defensive back Boe Boehm intercepted Pettus quarterback Ramon Reyna III on the next drive to set up Shiner at the Pettus 21. Quarterback Williams dropped back to pass, could not find an open receiver and scrambled for a 21-yard touchdown for a 33-0 lead with 42 seconds left in the first.

On their next drive, Pettus managed to pick up a first down but soon stalled after that and punted inside the Shiner 20. The Comanches started at their own 20 and reached the 50 in four plays. Caddell then scored on a 50-yard run off of an inside handoff with 6:47 remaining in the half.

The Comanches scored once more in the second quarter for a 46-0 lead - Fric's 8-yard run following a 63-yard run by Caddell from his 29.

Shiner could have added even more points but lost a fumble inside the Pettus 25 with just few seconds left in the half.

Shiner scored to start the second half as Jones fielded a kickoff near his 23 and took it all the way to the Pettus end zone.

Pettus negated the scoreboard shutout as backup quarterback Tres Martinez tossed a 15-yard pass to Reyna III to cap an 11-play, 70-yard drive with Reyna III catching three passes for 48 yards and Shiner getting hit with an 11-yard penalty.

Shiner got the last laugh as reserve quarterback Chase Malinovsky took the the Tribe on a 55-yard drive, converting a 4th-and-4 with an 8-yard sneak and the drive ended in a 31-yard run by Caddell with less than eight minutes left; he had the two-point play for a 61-6 margin.
