The Comanches made another statement Friday in their 2021 Homecoming game in a complete game in downing Burton 43-0.

"I thought it was a great group effort," Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "Everyone got to contribute tonight. We improved in all three phases of the game. We ask the kids to come out and improve each week."

Shiner (4-0) held the Panthers to just 108 total yards, seven first downs and came up with four turnovers.

"Defensive effort was good. We were able to force some turnovers. I thought we got to the football well," Boedeker said. "We knew their backs were going to be physical runners and would get some yards after contact but our defense did a good job as the game progressed."

The Comanches executed well on the offense with 309 yards rushing, one turnover and no punts.

Doug Brooks led the rushing game with 195 yards and two touchdowns with Beck Bishop scoring twice and Cale Shows adding a rushing touchdown. Quarterback Drew Wenske was 5-of-8 for 80 yards and one touchdown with tight end Tyler Bishop catching three balls for 61 yards and one touchdown.

"We challenged the offensive line, told them it would not be easy. Our backs ran hard and put a complete game together," Boedeker said.

Shiner opened the game with a 67-yard drive that saw Wenske hit Tyler Bishop for a 32-yard touchdown pass on fourth down.

Next, Burton punted a ball to the Comanche 31 and two plays later, Doug Brooks had a 29- yard run to the 38 and he scored from the 21 a few plays later.

On the next Panther drive, Shiner recovered a fumble at the Burton 10 and three plays later, Beck Bishop had a short touchdown run for a 21-0 lead five seconds into the second quarter.

Shiner fumbled the ball on its next possession and Burton had it at the Shiner 40. The Panthers were dropped for a loss but a personal foul penalty and then an unsportsmanshipconduct penalty gave Burton 30 yards and first down at the Shiner 13.

The Panthers then lost another fumble and Shiner moved from its 13 to inside the Panther 20 with runs from Doug Brooks, Beck Bishop, Dalton Brooks and Trace Bishop mixed with a couple of completions by Wenske to Tyler Bishop and Beck Bishop. The drive ended when Ryan Peterson missed a 35-yard field goal attempt.

He soon got another chance as Burton lost yet another fumble at its 16 with less than 20 seconds left in the first half. Shiner did not move the ball and Peterson connected on a 32-yard field goal as time expired for a 24-0 halftime lead.

Burton went three-and- out on its first drive of the second half; Doug Brooks carried twice to total 56 yards on their first two plays, starting at the Shiner 34. Beck Bishop had a 7-yard run to cap the drive for a 30-0 lead after the pat was missed.

Doug Brooks put Shiner ahead 37-0 with a 25-yard run at the 2:59 mark of the third frame and the Comanches scored once more on a 4-yard run by Cale Shows after the defense had recovered its fourth fumble for the last score of the game.
