Lining up to punt on their third possession, San Antonio Davenport had firm control of the game and led 14-0 against Shiner.

Shiner got the punt blocked by Tyler Bishop and went on to get points on the board on the following drive, did not Davenport score again and rallied to a 28- 14 win Friday night at Comanche Stadium.

"Our defense started off a little tough. Davenport was driving; coach told us during the week Davenport was going to get these small dumpoff passes. They gave us a new game plan and we went out and performed. We just had to change some things but after that we were all square," Bishop, who had a couple of sacks, said.

"Our kids got used to the pace Davenport was going. The blocked punt gave us great momentum and got a spark going in our guys," Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "Our guys played lightsout defense for the rest of the game. That was a really good offense to defend and Davenport put themselves into a situation to be successful on every play with their run-pass options. I thought our kids did a good job of adjusting, getting into the game flow and feeling what Davenport was doing with some of their checks.

"We saw some things that we could do to get pressure on them." The Comanches sputtered on their first three offensive possession due to Davenport's defensive effort but after the blocked punt, got into the flow of things and executed well save for a turnover and turn over on downs.

"We observed how they were lined up and how they were attacking us, some of their tendencies and were able to take advantage of those. Getting the right play called and executed well. Linemen did well with their steps and backs hit the hole and were physical," Boedeker said.

Following the blocked punt, the Comanches had the ball at the Lion 30 and Dalton Brooks had an 11-yard run to the 20 and a few plays later, scored from 20 yards out for a 7-7 game after Ryan Peterson's extra point. After trading punts, the Lions got inside the Shiner 20 and were stopped on fourth down. Shiner turned the ball over two plays later and the first half ran out as the Lions were moving the ball.

Shiner came out and executed on offense to open the third quarter, scoring on a six-play, 64-yarrd drive. Dalton Brooks converted a third down with a 39-yard run that the Lions helped out more with a face mask call, moving the ball to the 9 and Doug Brooks rumbled for a touchdown that gave Shiner a 14-7 lead less than two minutes in.

On the next drive, more defensive pressure on Lions quarterback Triston Hamlin, led by Beck Bishop, resulted in a sack and fumble which Shiner recovered. Quarterback Drew Wenske had a 32-yard option keeper, Beck Bishop had a 14-yard carry and Doug Brooks finished things with a 6-yard run for a 20-14 lead with 6:26 left in the quarter.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Shiner took over after a punt at its 30, moved the ball closer to midfield at the 46 and receiver Micah Carson took a handoff on the reverse for a 54- yard touchdown run. He carried the ball on an identical play for a score that was called back. Doug Brooks ran for a two-point conversion and 28-14 lead.

The Wolves then had a 14-play drive that got them at the 50 but Hamlin was sacked by Tyler Bishop on fourth down, and Shiner took over and ran out the clock.
