Tyler Palmer ran for three touchdowns and threw for one while Donyai Taylor ran for two touchdowns and had a receiving touchdown as Shiner completed its run on the regular season and district , 10-0 and 4-0 respectively, with a 62-6 win at Wallis Brazos on Friday ( November 8, 2019 ).

The win earns Shiner the outright District 15-2A-D1 title.

Taylor led the rushing effort with 163 yards on 10 carries; Dalton Brooks had two carries for 84 yard and one score; Palmer ran three times for 75 yards, Zane Rhodes had a single carry, a touchdown run of 39 yards, Doug Brooks added 25 yards on five carries.

Noah Nevlud had three carries for 21 yards and Cash Shows had a 3-yard carry.

Palmer completed 5-of-7 for 82 yards; Taylor had two catches for 46 yards and a 19-yard touchdown reception. Cross Rankin had one reception for 14 yards, Devin Lehnert had one catch for 13 yards and Doug Brooks had a 9-yard reception.

Shiner scored on the game’s first offensive play on a 65-yard run by Taylor. Palmer had his first rushing score on a 3-yard run with 7:13 left in the first quarter and scored on a 32-yard run at the 1:17 mark for a 20-0 lead.

The Comanches returned to the end zone with 7:57 left in the half on a 1-yard run by Doug Brooks for a 27-0 lead and went up 34-0 with a 46-yard run by Dalton Brooks at the 5:52 mark.

Taylor punched it in from 30 yards out with 2:59 left in the half.

Rhodes scored his touchdown with 8:59 left in the third; Palmer scored his third on the ground with 4:55 left and tossed a 19-yard pass to Taylor at the 1:10 mark.

The Cougars ended the shutout with a 12-yard pass from Bryson Bennett to August Hale with 24 seconds left in the game.

Shiner opens the playoffs at 7 p.m. today in the bi-district round against Freer at Floresville.
