YORKTOWN WILDCATS AT SHINER COMANCHES
The Wildcats return to Shiner after opening the season at Comanche Stadium against St. Paul. The Comanches went 6-for-6 in non district and now looks forward to starting the second season against Yorktown.
Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said the Comanches feel good about where they are at but are working to improving more.
“We still have had some penalties and turnover issues we are working on,” he said.
Yorktown has a balanced offense that leans toward the pass and has gone with two quarterbacks this season — Mark Guerrero (32-of-52 passing for 631 yards, seven touchdowns, one interception) and Drew Alexander (45-of-88 for 786 yards. six touchdowns, six interceptions).
Tevin Fontenot and Corey Pargmann each have over 300 yards receiving.
Zack Latta is the leading rusher with 268 yards on 72 carries and three touchdowns while Justin Denison has ran for 154 yards and six touchdowns.
“They will throw the ball a lot and we will have a game plan to deal with their air attack,” Boedeker said.
On the defense, Pargmann is the leading tackler with 65 on the season.
Boedeker said Yorktown is very multiple on the defensive side, lining up in the split and the 50 look but will also stack.
“It will be a challenge for our offensive line but they are up to the task,” he said.
