Shiner concluded the brief scrimmage portion of the season with a brief scrimmage at Luling on Thursday ( August 22, 2019 ) . The Comanches varsity was able to get in 15 plays on offense and then 15 on defensive before lightning in the area resulted in a significant delay and then the rest of the scrimmage was called off.
Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said Shiner was able to get in quality work and improve despite the action getting called due to weather. “We improved on both sides of the football,” he said.
Shiner scored three touchdowns overall, getting two on offense via a run by Donyai Taylor and Devin Lehnert pass to Cole Patek.
Shiner also scored on defensive on a fumble recovery by Max Machacek and was able to shut out Luling.
“Our backs ran and blocked well; the offensive line had a great pad level and attacked quickly,” Boedeker said. “Our wide receivers did well blocking on the perimeter.”
He was especially pleased about the defense improving its play.
“We did better getting off the blocks, getting to the football and making better tackles. We are still a little high on the defensive line but we will get better as it is a process.”
