SHINER COMANCHES AT KENEDY LIONS

The Comanches (7-1, 2-0) make their second and final district road trip as they are at Kenedy who is winless after seven games.

For Shiner, it is about taking care of business in these last two regular season games to bring home the district title.

“Our main goal is to just continue getting better and better,” Comanches head coach Steven Cerny said. “We have to get back to doing all the little things and fundamentals correctly.”

Kenedy’s spread offense has averaged 238 yards a game, 158 through the air and 80 on the ground. The Lions have had three players throw at least three passes.

Dedrick Wilson leads the group as he is 50-of-105 for 720 yards, nine touchdowns, seven interceptions and 14.4 yards an attempt.

Jaydin Chapa has hit 27-of-43 for 387 yards, five touchdowns and one interception and averages 14.3 yards an attempt.

Nahjel Felix leads the receivers with 462 yards on 23 catches and seven touchdowns.

Oscar Hinojosa has 27 grabs for 380 yards and four touchdowns.

Lee Garza leads a rushing attack that has some trouble producing yards and points as he has 57 carries for 260 yards and three touchdowns.

“They have switched up personnel a lot this year so we cannot key on one player,” Cerny said.

Israel Reyes is the Lions’ leading tackler with 66 on the year.

Cerny said the Shiner offense needs to fire off quickly on the ball and stay low.

After this contest, Shiner will have its bye week before hosting Wallis Brazos in the final regular-season game.

“It’s been a grind as we have not had an open date yet. We just have to get through this game and then on to our bye week,” Cerny said.
