Everything just clicked for the Shiner Comanches.

Shiner took a 20-0 lead at halftime Friday ( October 19, 2018 ) against Weimar and outscored the Wildcats 28-6 in the second half for a 48-6 romp to improve to 2-0 in district. The game was the first Shiner home game in nearly a month.

The Comanches rolled up over 400 yards on offense, committed just a single turnover and was dominant on the defense, holding Weimar to a single touchdown.

“Everything went well for us tonight,” Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said. “They got one long pass play (first quarter) but our defense held them (out of the end zone on that drive). They have done that time and time again this year.”

“I’m just really proud of the whole team effort; It was just a great performance. We were very physical.”

Weimar gained just 8 yards on its first drive, an omen of things to come for most of the game, and punted. Shiner’s first play was at its own 37 and Tyler Palmer took a toss play 28 yards to the Wildcat 35.

Zane Rhodes gained 25 yards on a toss from the ‘Cat 32 to the 7; two plays later, quarterback Tyler Mikes scored from the 1 to give Shiner a 7-0 lead.

Weimar made a little more progress on their second drive. Quarterback Clay Barton converted a 3rd-and-10 at the 30 with a 10-yard pass to Dylerick Ellison.

Barton had a 9-yard scramble to the Shiner 48 from his 43 for another first down and on the next play, he found Sam Reidlinger for a long 38-yard gain through the air.

The ‘Cats got inside the 10 and then the 5, looking poised to finish the drive with points but eventually faced fourth down at the 3. Barton’s pass on that down was incomplete and Shiner took over next to its own end zone.

Donyai Taylor then got runs of 14, 2 and 20 yards to get Shiner out to its 39 then Collin Bujnoch ripped off a 51-yard run to the ‘Cat 10 yard. Taylor finished the drive two plays later with a 10-yard run for a 13-0 lead at the 10:50 mark of the second quarter.

Doug Brooks scored on an 8-yard run for a 20-0 lead with 5:30 left in the half after 60-yard, seven-play drive following a Weimar punt.

The Comanches next drive started on the Weimar 42 after Devin Lehnert had a 23-yard return. Shiner later lost a fumble to give the ‘Cats the ball back and the half ended with Weimar in possession near the 50.

To start the second half, Shiner had a 53-yard drive with a 23-yard run by Brooks, a 17-yard run inside by Taylor and Mikes capping the drive on a 13-yard run at the 10:31 mark of the third period.

Weimar punted again and Lehnert had a 35-yard return to the Weimar 30. Brooks had a 19-yard run and then had an 11-yard scoring run for a 34-0 Comanches lead with 7:52 left in the third.

Mikes scored his third touchdown on an 18-yard run with just a little over three minutes to go in the period for a 41-0 Shiner lead.

Weimar got on the board with 1:26 left in the third on a 41-yard pass from Joey Ramirez to Dylerick Ellison. The two-point failed and at that point, the game had a running clock.

Shiner concluded scoring with over nine minutes left in the game on a 33-yard run by Zane Rhodes.
