Shiner welcomes Yorktown for a 7:30 p.m. 15-2A-DI game at Comanche Stadium tomorrow ( Friday, October 26, 2017 ).

“Yorktown is very solid and plays with confidence,” Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said. “They play extremely physical and we expect a very physical game.”

“Yorktown has looked good at the start of district. They did lose to Refugio. They run multiple on offense," Cerny said. "They can run at you with the wishbone or spread you out."

Yorktown has four players with over 200 yards rushing each and the team currently has 1,194 yards on the ground. Brian Metting leads the group with 256 yards and five touchdowns.

Ryan Zuniga has 240 yards and two scores. Quarterback Jayden Webb has completed 20-of-66 passes for 278 yards and five touchdowns. On the receiving end, Ja-Mel Wade has 143 yards and one touchdown while Corey Pargmann had three touchdowns and 114 yards.

“They have a lot of experience in the backfield as they are all seniors,” Cerny said. “We have to match up well up front, and the linebackers and secondary have to make solid open-field tackles.”

On defense, expect the ‘Cats to run a 5-2 or split. “Last year, we hit them with some early big plays but did not pull away until late,” Cerny said.
