Shiner Comanches at Falls City Beavers
Shiner will play its second straight road game with a trip to Falls City on Friday ( September 22, 2017 ).
The Comanches are 1-1 after two games, losing to Hallettsville 49-12 and beating Brazos 35-20.
The Beavers are 2-1 after beating Bruni 52-0, edged out by Poth 33-24 and getting a 22-20 win against Stockdale.
“This will be a tough one because last year when we played them, they had key players injured. This year, they are healthy,” Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said. “They have some good skilled players and their offensive line is playing well.”
Cerny said the Beavers’ offense will throw a lot of things: two-back, double-tight, shotgun.
Quarterback Keyshawn Johnson is the focal point for the offense as he has thrown for 284 yards and three touchdowns while rushing the ball for 338 yards and five touchdowns.
“Johnson makes their offense go,” he said. “He is big and strong. When receivers are covered, he can move on the ground. We will have to contain him.”
Nathan Brodsky is the leading Falls City defender with 27 tackles on the season.
Last week at Brazos, Shiner’s offense would play well, have a drop off and then get back in gear.
“We need to have consistency and play well for all four quarters,” Cerny said.
The Beavers and Shiner are old district rivals so Cerny expects a battle on Falls City’s brand new turf field.
