PFLUGERVILLE — At several different occasions in the game, the Shiner Comanches found themselves down by double-digits in Friday night’s area-round game against playoff pals Mason in Pflugerville.

And each time, Shiner found a way back in the game each time, taking the game to overtime but Mason found a way through, 34-28.

The Comanches were down 14-0, managed a score late in the third to get within 14-6 and then Shiner was down 21-6 as the Punchers answered and Shiner made up ground to get within 21- 13. Mason took a 28-13 lead with a 64-yard run by back Haddon Hudson for his third of the game with 3:41 left in the contest.

Shiner stepped up as senior receiver Ty Boedeker grabbed a long ball and a 50-yard touchdown pass. And, after Shiner successful recovered an onsides kick, Boedeker had a 10-yard pass from Cerny and Dadrian Taylor had the two-point rush to knot the game at 28-28.

"I could not be more proud of them," Comanches head coach Steven Cerny said. "Down by 14 at halftime, they could have shut down but we asked them to step up and give it all they had."

"Great runs by Dadrian, Brandon did a great job of running the offense; our offensive line and wideouts stepped up and got blocks; great plays by Ty Boedeker."

Trailing 28-13 with under four minutes to play, the Comanches started at their own 36. A few plays into the drive, Taylor had an 11-yard run to the 50 and Brandon Cerny hung a long pass for Boedeker, who managed to pull in the ball and outrun his defender for the touchdown.

Shiner went for the onsides kick and got it at the Puncher 49. Taylor had two carries total 18 yards to the 31 and facing a third-and-8 at the 29, Brandon Cerny connected with Boedeker for 11 yards and a first down.

Later, Taylor got all the way to the 4 but was tackled back at the 10 on the next play. Brandon Cerny threw incomplete on the next play and followed up with the 10- yard strike to Boedeker to get Shiner within two points before Taylor’s successful conversion run with just seven seconds left.

The Comanches got the ball first in overtime — Brandon Cerny had a 7-yard run to the 18 and Taylor got Shiner to the 11 before the Comanches had an incomplete pass on third down and missed the 28-yard field goal.

Mason then got a 25-yard run by Hudson on their first overtime offensive play for the game winner.

Both teams stalled on offense in the first quarter. Mason stepped up on defense and held Shiner in check. However, the Punchers failed to convert fourth-down attempts on their first two drives.

Early in the second quarter, Mason rode the back of Hudson, got near the 50 and Hudson scored on a 53-yard run to give the Punchers a 7-0 lead.

Hudson’s 9-yard run with 27 seconds left in the half capped a five minute, 89-yard drive to give Mason a 14-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Shiner was able to move the ball deep into Puncher territory thanks to a 32-yard run by Taylor. Shiner later tried to convert a fourth down but fell short.

The ensuing Mason drive ended without points as Boedeker picked off an Emanuel Martinez halfback pass at the Shiner 23 and ran it all the way to the Mason 34. After a short gain by Brandon Cerny, Taylor scored on a 31-yard run.

Mason capped a 56-yard drive with a 9-yard run by Klay Klaerner with 52 seconds left in the third for a 15-point margin for Mason.

Taylor pulled Shiner within 21-13 on a 13-yard run with less than six minutes left and Mason followed with a 64-yard run by Hudson at the 3:41 mark of the fourth quarter.
