Game Preview: Shiner Comanches at Hitchcock Bulldogs
The Shiner Comanches wrap the non-district schedule for 2016 with a trip to Hitchcock, to face the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Friday (tomorrow, September 23, 2016).
This will be just the second contest on the road for Shiner and the fi rst real road trip as the Comanches made the 15-mile journey to Hallettsville on September 2nd.
The game will be a good gauge to see how the Comanches (3-1) have come so far in the season.
"They got speed and they have got size," Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said.
The Bulldogs are a Slot-T offense but are not necessarily going to go "three yards and a cloud of dust".
"They have some game breakers who can make big plays," Cerny said. Look for Bulldogs Carlos Frank (slot), Drevian Archibald (slot) and Xavian Hampton (fullback) to be the main ball carriers.
"We will have to play our defensive assignments well," Cerny said. "The quarterback is good at creating fakes. It can be difficult defending a speedy Slot-T team."
Hitchcock has shown split, 5-2 and 4-3 on defense. They have a big defensive line led by John Scott and Elijah Mason.
Cerny said the best defense will be solid offensive play.
"We need to control the clock with long drives and score points every time we have the ball," he said. This will be the first time Shiner has ever played Hitchcock.
"We have a charter bus for our fans; the game will be played on a turf field. We are looking forward to this challenge going into our bye next week and the start of district after that," Cerny added.
