Led by silver medal finishes by Sabrina Blaschke in the long jump, Maggie Grosenbacher in the 800-meter run, and the 4x200 relay team and a bronze from the 4x100 relay team, the Lady Comanches racked up 54 team points that left them tied at the top of the leader board with Italy.
The Lady Comanches very nearly clinched the title outright. Unfortunately, a baton mishap in the 4x400 relay dropped them from third place to eighth place in the race and prevented them from scoring the final points that would have secured a solo victory.
Postponed due to inclement weather, the excited co-champions took their victory lap through Shiner on the fire truck on Monday evening.
