The Comanches have been a little concerned about familiarity and overconfidence going into their regional semifinal playoff game against their familiar district opponent, the Flatonia Bulldogs.

However, their performance out on the field quickly put those worries to rest for another week, and Shiner sailed through to a 41-7 victory Friday night (November 27, 2015) at Rice Bird Stadium in El Campo.

According to senior lineman Marcus Rodriquez, "We came out physical and we were ready to play. The defense, we gave them a few little breaks, but we were really physical, we played tough, and we didn't let them have any big plays. The offensive line, we just got low and did our job, like coach is always preaching, and our running backs got out there and they got those yards we needed."

The first quarter was quiet offensively and the game remained scoreless after a full quarter of play.

However, the Comanches started the second quarter on the Flatonia 3-yard line and quickly broke onto the scoreboard on their second play of the quarter when Ty Boedeker squeezed his way into the end zone from the 1-yard line.

That touchdown launched a second quarter scoring spree for the Comanches that included two more touchdowns on runs by Dadrian Taylor, one 14-yarder and the other a monstrous 89-yard play. Taylor, who had four touchdowns on the night said of the play, "The hole was originally there and then I felt a hand grab me. I fought that one off and then it was just open from there. I had to beat a few guys out at the end, but it was just great blocking from my line. It all feels crazy. I love my team. I love everything about it. We're just having fun right now."

Shiner (13-0) went into halftime with a 21-0 lead, and the third quarter, Taylor added two more touchdowns on 16- and 21-yard runs. Flatonia also scored their only points of the game on a third quarter run. Finally, Dustin Petras rounded out the Comanche scoring with one more touchdown on a short run in the fourth quarter.

The Comanches did not attempt a single pass all night long, but ran for 442 total yards. Over half of those yards came from Taylor who had 241 rushing yards on the night.

Other key contributions came from Chad Neubauer with 96 yards and 5 successful extra point kicks, Justin Stein with 60 yards, Boedeker with 25, and Charles Haynes with 18. The defense held the Bulldogs to 93 rushing yards and 82 passing yards.

With this win, the Comanches advance to the regional finals rounds of the playoffs where they will face another district opponent, the Refugio Bobcats.

The 11-2 Bobcats have not lost a game since their 30-19 loss to Shiner back on Oct. 9 in the first week of district play. "We're pumped for it. We've heard they've been doing good, but we've been doing really good too," Rodriguez said. "It all comes down to who comes out there and shows up for all four quarters."

Taylor added, "Oh yeah, we'll be ready."

The Comanches will battle the Bobcats on Friday (December 4, 2015) at 7:30 p.m. at the "Rock Pile" (Alamo Stadium) in San Antonio.
