The Comanches rushed for 346 yards, averaging over six yards per carry.

Shiner scored on their first four possessions to take a 28-7 lead at halftime.

Quentin Wright led Shiner's ground game with 139 yards on 14 carries. Wright scored three touchdowns on runs of 3, 1 and 6 yards. Quarterback Garet Pustka carried 15 times for 88 yards and scored two touchdowns on runs of 3 and 10 yards.

Eric Murphy and Steven Evans each scored a touchdowns and added 73 yards and 31 yards rushing, respectively.

The Shiner defense held Woodsboro to only 11 first downs and 108 yards rushing and 56 yards passing.

It was, as Coach Steve Cerny agreed, "an almost perfect outing. We executed well on both sides of the ball. And with that big run by Wright on the first play, we got a good start," said Cerny.

Shiner will now face Thorndale, a 55-33 winner over Burkeville, in the regional round of Class 1A playoffs. Thorndale has been bumped to No. 1 in the State in Class 1A.

Coach Cerny said both the offenses are similar, although Thorndale sometimes goes to the shotgun. "They also have a good defense, so it should be a good game."

The game is set for 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Hays Consolidated High School in Buda.

Wright sparked the Comanches offense on the first play of the game with a 61-yard run to the Woodsboro 9-yard line. He scored two plays later and the Comanches were on the board. The 2-point conversion pass failed, but the Comanches were on their way.

Pustka scored on a 3-yard run on Shiner’s next possession to cap a 73-yard, 12-play drive. Pustka’s pass to Wright for two was good and Shiner led 14-0 with 4:29 left in the first period.

Josh Burchell put the pressure on Woodsboro quarterback, Justin Kinslow, causing a wide throw and intentional grounding penalty.

Following a punt, Shiner took over on the Eagle 39. Shiner overcame two penalties and drove for the touchdown with Wright scoring from the 1-yard line with 10:20 left in the half. R.J. Lester’s PAT kick was good.

Shiner took less than five minutes on their next possession to add their fourth touchdown. This time it was Steven Evans sidestepping tacklers from 10 yards out. Lester’s kick was good for a 28-0 lead.

Justin Kinslow took the Eagles downfield to the 1-yard line and hit Ryan Autry in the end zone on fourth down for the score. Marcus Greenly split the uprights for the PAT.

With just :50 left in the half the Comanches ran five plays to the 19 and with just seconds left, Wright made a run for the goal line from 19 yards out but came up one yard short as the half ended.

The short drive was highlighted by a 29-yard pass from Pustka to Wright who made a spectacular finger-tip catch on the Eagle 20.

Woodsboro scored on their first possession of the second half with a 55-yard drive capped by an 11-yard pass from Justin Schubert to Ryan Autry. Autry made the catch flat on his back sliding into the end zone.

The 2-point conversion was no good and the score stood at 28-13 with 8:54 left in the third period.

Pustka added his second touchdown on a 10-yard run with 5:27 left in the third period.

Robbie Pavelka recovered a fumble on the Eagle 27-yard line to set up yet another touchdown. After one carry by Casey Coleman, Pustka ran three times to the 7. Pustka then pitched to Wright on a left sweep for the score.

Shiner’s defense stood their ground in the fourth period and the game ended with no more scoring.

Kinslow led the Eagles with 91 yards on 12 carries and completed five passes for 30 yards.

Pustka completed five passes, two to Casey Coleman, one each to Wright, Todd Wenske and Steven Evans for a total of 81 yards.
