Shiner closed out the regular season with a 36-14 District 31-1A win over the Pettus Eagles last Friday in Pettus.

The win preserves Shiner's perfect season at 10-0, 6-0, and sends the #1 ranked Comanches to the playoffs this Friday against Benavides (3-7) in George West. Game time for the bi-district clash is 7:30 p.m.
Led by Trey Curtis and Chris Baer, the Comanches racked up 306 yards of offense against Pettus with the defense allowing only 87 yards.
Quarterback Curtis rushed for 77 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown and passed for two more. Justin Joslin and Nick Evans were on the receiving end of Curtis' scoring strikes,
Baer had 15 carries for 83 yards and one touchdown. Dustin Maybenry scored one touchdown and Scott Shimek added three PATs and a 38-yard field goal.
The Eagles turned a big play late in the second period with an 80-yard kick return by Willie Santry. The Eagles' other score came on a 27-yard pass from Jon Perez to Doug Martin in the final period.
Shiner moved the ball 68 yards in nine plays on their opening possession, scoring on a 6-yard run by Curtis. The drive was highlighted by a 31-yard gain by Curtis on a third down play to keep the drive alive. Shimek's PAT was good.
The Comanches next scoring drive began on their 40-yard line and ended with Shimek's 38-yard field goal with 8:02 left in the second period.
After Pettus went four-and-out, Curtis hit Evans with a 21-yard strike for a touchdown. Shimek's PAT upped the score to 17-0.
For the fourth time, the Comanche defense took command and stopped the Eagles on their 25. A bad snap on the punt attempt gave Shiner the ball on the Eagle 5, Two plays later, Baer scored on a 4-yard run and Shiner led 23-0.
The Eagles' first break came on the kick off when Santry returned the ball 80 yards for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed but the Eagles cutthe lead to 17 as the half ended.

Curtis capped a 62-yard drive midway through the third period with a 13-yard scoring pass to Joslin. Shimek booted the PAT and the Comanches were again in command, 30-6.
Nick Evans intercepted a pass deep in Pettus territory to set up Shiner's fifth and final touchdown on the Eagle 19-yard line. Four plays later, Mayberry scored on a 1-yard plunge.
Pettus marched 63 yards on their next possession and scored on a 27-yard pass from Jon Perez to Doug Martin. The 2-pointconversion run by Santry was good and the score was 36-14 with almost 12 minutes left in the game.
The Eagles created another opportunity recovering the onside kick at the Shiner 39. However two penalties hampered their efforts and they turned the ball over on downs. Neither team sustained any offense the rest of the game and Shiner came away with a 36-14 win.
In the other District 31-1A playoff game, Flatonia will meet Ben Bolt Friday at East Central High School in San Antonio.
