It was a matter of too much Beaver defense and not enough Shiner offense in the District 30-1A showdown game against Falls City last week.

Falls City beat Shiner 7-0 and takes over first place in the district.
It was the first shut out suffered by the Comanches in 75 games, dating back to 1997.
Shiner, 3-1, must now beat Flatonia, also 3-1, in the final district game this Friday. Falls City is assured of a playoff spot with a 4-0 district record.
Shiner's execution of the veer offense lacked its usual accuracy and precision as the Comanches made only eight first downs and were held to just 134 yards.
The Comanches lost 3-of-6 fumbles and were stopped inside the 10-yard line on two drives.
Two other drives into Falls City territory were negated by penalties.

Clayton McCorkle sacks the Beaver quarterback for a loss on this play.
Shiner took the opening kickoff and drove to the Falls City 11-yard line on four plays. Quentin Wright picked up two yards and Chris Baer carried twice to the 2 1/2-yard line. Wright got the call on fourth down and was thrown for a loss sending the Comanches away empty handed.
Shiner had two more possessions in Falls City territory in the first quarter but both times the Comanches lost the ball on fumbles.
The Comanche defense, meanwhile, was doing a good job forcing the Beavers to punt several times.
With 8:33 left in the half, Chris Baer broke loose from his 36 and rambled deep into Beaver territory. A holding penalty nullified the run and two losses sent the Comanches back to their 9-yard line.
Falls City took over on the Comanche 42 and six plays later Joe Theis bulled his way up the middle for an 8-yard touchdown. Jim Baugh kicked the PAT and Falls City led 7-0 with 3:05 left in the half.

The Beavers took the second half kick off and marched to the Comanche 19-yard line before giving up the ball on downs. Ryan Kloesel, Brady Strauss, Jared Boedeker, Trey Curtis and Steven Evans all made good defensive plays to stop the drive.
Shiner seemed on the verge of scoring early in the final period when another fumble dashed the Comanche efforts.
The Comanches started on the Falls City 48 and carries by Wright and Steven Evans moved the ball to the Beaver 16.

Wright then carried three times for a first down on the 3-yard line. Pustka lost two yards, Evans got one back on second down and on third-and-goal from the four the Beavers recovered a Comanche fumble on the 11 with 9:14 left in the game.
Shiner's final chance came with 1:27 left in the game. The Comanches faced a fourth-and-five on the Falls City 33. Casey Coleman raced to the 11-yard line on a pass play but the Comanches were flagged for an illegal forward lateral and lost the ball on downs.
Both teams ran a total of 47 plays each. Falls City had to punt seven times. Steven Evans punted five times for the Comanches, including a 65-yard boot that kept the Beavers in their end of the field.
Besides the six fumbles, the Comanches were flagged six times for just 35 yards, but two of the penalties were costly, nullifying big plays.
Shiner will meet Flatonia in a repeat of last year's situation, where Shiner had to win to claim the district title. This time Shiner has to win to claim a playoff spot. Game time at Comanche Stadium is 7:30 pm.
