The Shiner Comanches regular season win streak that goes back to 2003 was snapped last Friday by the East Bernard Brahmas.

East Bernard pulled off a 13-10 win over the Comanches and knocked Shiner out of the top ten state rankings in Class 1A.

The Brahmas racked up 325 total yards to the Comanches' 146.

Quarterback Odrick Thomas led the rushing game with 78 yards on 12 carries. Shiner QB Trey Curtis had 62 yardss on 18 carries.

Shiner completed only one pass and threw two interceptions, while the Brahmas hit 10-of-13 and only one interception.

"We had opportunities but didn't capitalize offensively," said Coach Steve Cerny.

"We were pleased with our defense, they kept us in the game. The offensive line is doing a good job for us. We're still running the veer and it take stime to get everything working with our new backfield."

Cernay said that East Bernard's shotgun offense also presented a new look for the defense. He said that Shiner will probably face more teams with that kind of offense and his defense will have to work on that.

East Bernard got on the scoreboard first with a 1-yard run by Odrick Thomas with 7:30 left in the first period. Matt Kopycinski's kick was good for a 7-0 lead.

Shiner scored on a field goal by Ryan Kloesel in the second period to cut the lead to 7-3 at intermission.

The Comanches finally completed a drive late in the third period to take a 10-7 lead. Curtis found the end zone from three yards out and Kloesel booted the PAT.

Mike Hayes pulled in an 18-yard pass from Andrew Webster at the 10-15 mark of the final period to go up 13-10. Kopycinski's kick was blocked.

The Comanches had plenty of time for a comeback, but couldn't sustain their drives as the Brahma defense stifled Shiner's running game and their pass rush had Curtis scrambling in the backfield.

East Bernard had the last possession and had a touchdown called back on a penalty but managed to run the clock out for the win.

In addition to Curtis, Shiner's running game included 16 carries by Dustin Mayberry for 52 yards and four carries by Ryan Kloesel for 26 yards.

Kody Selzer caught a pass for Shiner's only completion for six yards.
