"We had a good overall performance by the entire team against Yoakum," said Coach Steve Cerny.
"It was a pretty good match up until they finally wore us down," he added.
Overall, he said, everyone was pleased with the effort and result.
This year's roster of 25 players includes 13 seniors led by quarterback Garet Pustka.

Chris Baer pulls in a pass that was good for a score against Yoakum.
Coach Cerny expects a physical game against Poth. "They had a JV that went 8-1 last year so they have a good young group coming up," he said.
Coach Cerny also said the Shiner coaching staff is "a good mix of coaches." Cerny, Billy Turek, Daniel Boedeker and David Goetz have all worked together before and newcomer Wendell Boner "brings in the fire that's needed in the line."
