It wasn't one of their better played games, but thanks to some clutch hitting
and good pitching, the Shiner Lady Comanches beat the Falls City Beaverettes,
50, in the Class 1A regional semi-final at Goliad.
Morgan Ullmann went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Shiner at the plate.
Heather Haas gave up just three hits, while striking out 12 in the 7-inning
contest.
Shiner is now one win away from a trip to the state tournament for the third
straight year. The Lady Comanches will take on Thorn-dale, an 18-10 winner
over Woodsboro in their playoff game. The regional final game will be played
at 7 p.m. this Friday at Brenham High School. Winner advances to the state
tournament.
"I didn't get what I expected from the girls, especially on offense, but
we'll take the win," said Shiner Coach Brandon Siegel. The Lady Comanches had
eight hits but stranded eight runners.

Shiner scored three runs against Falls City in the first inning to give the
Lady Comanches all they needed for the win. Lauren Michalec drew a walk,
stole second and scored on Taylor Hajek's single. Heather Haas was hit by a
pitch and both runners advanced on a passed ball.
After Amber Shimek popped out for the second out, Morgan Ullmann drilled a
grounder up the middle scoring both runners.
Haas then retired the side in the first inning and allowed only four runners
the rest of the way. A single in the second inning, single and walk in the
third and a single in the seventh gave Falls City their only runners of the
game. All hits were infield singles, as Haas didn't allow any balls hit to
the outfield.
The Lady Comanches threatened again in the third inning with the bases loaded
and no outs. But an infield pop up and a hard liner to the shortstop who then
doubled off the runner at third ended the inning.
