BOLING - Despite a gallant effort the Boling Bulldogs came out on the short end of a 7-6 score against third ranked Shiner at Bulldog Stadium Friday night.

Shiner took advantage of a bad snap on a punt with 2:49 left in the opening quarter to set up for their only touchdown.

On the very next play, Comanche quarterback Garet Pustka ran the 14 yards for a touchdown.

Scott Shimek’s extra point kick made it 7-0 with 2:41 left. Boling waited until the third quarter to score the lone Bulldog touchdown. With 8:28 remaining, Carlton Waddy scored on a 4-yard run.

But a 2-point conversion pass attempt by Rashad Ford failed. The drive started at Boling’s 21-yardline to start the third quarter.

On fourth and four from the 47, Boling faked a punt and Adrian Becerra connected with Ford for a 22-yard pass to the Comanche 31-yardline.

On second and 11 from the Shiner 21, Jerrell Allen picked up 17 yards to the four. Waddy scored on the next play.

Boling drove to the Comanche 33-yardline with 3:43 left in game but turned the ball over on downs, after an intentional call.

With 2:12 left, Shiner’s Steven Evans picked up a big first down. After a 15-yard penalty which moved it to the 39-yardline, Pustka picked up eight yards to the 47. On the next play he ran 39 yards to the Bulldog 14 and it sealed the victory.

"We played hard enough to win," said Boling coach Rob Schoenfeld. "It was a tough pill to swallow. "

The line controlled the game, he said.

"We played tremendous competition the first three games, but we should come out okay the rest of the season."

Boling dominated the game offensively as they totaled up 348 yards. Waddy finished with 241 yards on 27 carries. Blake Burton had 77 yards on nine carries.

Shiner totaled up 220 yard. Pustka had 119 yards on 21 carries. Chris Baer rushed for 75 yards on 13 carries.

Boling, now 0-3 on the season, is off next Friday and hosts St. Joseph on Sept. 26.
