SHINER -- Shiner proved worthy of their No. 4 Class A football ranking when they played Boling at Comanche Stadium on Friday night.
The Comanches built a commanding 39-0 halftime lead and finished with a convincing 60-0 win over the Bulldogs to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Shiner totaled up 396 yards compared to Boling’s only 107.
Running back Chris Baer rushed for 158 yards on 13 carries for Shiner. Kenzley Wright rushed for 75 yards on six carries and Trey Curtis picked up 55 yards on four carries.
Justin Simpson led Boling with 45 yards on eight carries while quarterback Waylon Griggs had 26 yards on 11 carries.
Boling suffered their first loss of the season, after beating Refugio and Industrial.
Shiner went up 12-0 after the first quarter.
Wright scored on the Comanches’ first possesson of the game, with 8:25 left, on a 33-yard run. The extra point kick failed.
With 2:45 remaining, Baer received the handoff and ran 22 yards for a score. The kick failed again.
Shiner added four more touchdowns in the second. Shiner QB Curtis scored the first of them on a 22-yard run with 11:48 left. Once again the conversion try failed.
Boling then drove the ball to midfield after the ensuing kickoff. But Chase O'Connor picked off a pass from Griggs and returned it 45 yards for a score.
Scott Shimek booted the extra point kick to put Shiner up 25-0.
Less than two minutes later, with 7:40 remaining, Wright ran 22 yards for a score and Shimek’s kick made it 32-0.
Baer then scored on a 4-yard run with 2:56 left until halfime and Shimek’s kick put the Comanches up 39-0.
Shiner picked up two more touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 53-0 lead. Baer scored on a 18-yard run with 10:50 left. It came on the first play from scrimmage of the second half after kickoff. Shimek’s kick made it 46-0.
Ryan Kloesel got in on the scoring with a six-yard run with only 22 seconds left in the third quarter. He booted the extra point to give Shiner a 53-0 edge.
Earlier in the quarter, Boling drove inside the Shiner 29 when Griggs was intercepted.
Isaac Casares scored Shiner’s final touchdown with 3:20 left in the game and Kloesel’s kick gave the Comanches their 60th point.
Boling, now 2-1 on the season, hosts Ganado next Friday.
