Class 2A-DI Region IV Final Playoff
Shiner vs. Refugio
7:30 p.m. Friday (December 4, 2015) at Alamo Stadium, San Antonio
Shiner faces a district opponent in the playoffs for the second consecutive round with a state quarterfinal game against Refugio at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Friday December 4, 2015) at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio.
The Comanches battled hard in the regular-season game, winning 30-19.
And they are hoping for the same thing to happen tomorrow.
"We hope nothing will be different and we get the same result," Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said. "Both teams have improved, added and removed things from their individual offenses and defenses."
Refugio is a scary team that can score in a hurry.
"Our defense will need to prevent Refugio from making any big plays," he said. "We need some of our defenders to step up and make some big plays."
Refugio will look to quarterback Jaylon Mascorro and running back Isaiah Perez to produce plenty of offense.
The 'Cats will run the 5-2 on defense to deal with the Shiner double-tight end sets.
Cerny said Shiner's offense needs to sustain drives and stay ahead of the chains as the Bobcat defense is big and strong.
Shiner meeting Refugio was the fulfillment of some pre-season predictions.
"The predictions said we would either face Mason or Refugio in this round. It just happens to be Refugio," Cerny said. "It is going to be a great game, and after it's over, one good team will be headed home but everybody is going to be giving it their all."
