Girls team and Matthews advance to Region

District 26-4A Meet, Seguin

The Gonzales Lady Apaches cross-county team is headed to regionals after coming in second at the 26-4A meet Monday at Seguin’s Max Starke Park.

The Lady Apaches scored 60 points, just 21 behind district champions La Vernia.

Romy Cantu came in No. 10 with 13 minutes, 21 seconds, Haley Garza was behind her in 13:31, followed by Ashleigh Haub and Hannah Rowland in 13:39 with Seidy Villegas in No. 14 in 13:41. Blanca Hernandez was No. 21 in 14:10 and Maura Garcia was No. 24 in 14:20.

Yoakum was sixth with 150 points. Kaci Herman was No. 19 in 14:05; Jayla Morris followed in 14:06; Jessica Hernandez was No. 36 in 14:51 and Kelcey Cooper was behind her in 14:57, followed by Everlyn Ceka in 15:16; Kourtney Jeter was No. 40 in 15:38 and Kacee Fink was No. 47 in 18:47.

In the varsity boys race, Gonzales was sixth with 110 points. Jesus Diaz DeLeon was No. 11 in 17:55; Jose Hernandez was No. 21 in 19:01; Sebastian Christian was No. 25 in 19:39, followed by Max Moreno (19:40), Angel Pizano (19:42) and Cody Oakes (20:03). Rene Bibas was No. 31 in 21:10.

Yoakum’s David Oviedo was No. 11 in 17:49, Ryan Brewer was No. 34 with 20:40, Dean Klesel was No. 36 in 21:02.

The Gonzales girls’ junior varsity team finished second with 45 points. Kendra Cavit was seventh with 15:02; Valeria Aquayo followed in 15:16, behind her was Cristal Garcia in 15:17, followed by Desaray Rodriguez (15:21) and Angelica Mathis (15:21). Mayra Granados was No. 13 in 15:34 and Michaela Garcia was No. 14 in 15:59.

Yoakum’s Payton Quinney was No. 24 in 22:14.

The Apaches JV finished third with 75 points. Anthony Vilez was eighth in 19:46; Suriel Rangel was No. 13 in 20:20; Mario Pizano was No. 17 with 20:57, followed by Sesar Almaguer in 21:15 and Christian Garcia in 21:21. Carlos Blanco was No. 23 in 22:12 and Jacob Burek was No. 26 in 23:50.


District 30-1A Meet

The Moulton Bob Kittens varsity cross country team won the District 30-1A meet with 34 points. Rayvin Kalisek came in third place with 14:35.97; Janeth Colchado was seventh in 15:58.91; Angelina Guzman came in No. 10 in 16:06.77 and Hannah Kalisek followed in 16:09.26; Mercedes Manzano was No. 14 in 16:29.34; Argelia Colchado was No. 19 in 18:37.03 and Mandi Mitchon followed in 18:56.46.

The Moulton varsity boys came in second place with 67 points. Ireneo Barbosa was third in 17:09.41; Connor Blahuta was No. 15 in 19:37.8; Gavin Patton was No. 17 in 19:46.78; Kyle Trejo was No. 19 in 20:26.36; Fernando Euceda was No. 21 in 20:49.7; Todd Zidek was No. 24 in 21:39.30; Holden Jahn was No. 27 in 22:03.76.

For Waelder, John Aguilar was No. 12 in 19:11.11; Steven Ewing was No. 16 in 19:38.03; Tracey Moore was No. 20 in 20:48.99; Aaron Wilson was No. 22 in 21:29.46.

The Bob Kittens had one runner in the junior varsity race, Lilee Jahn, who came in first in 19:23.94.

For the Bobkatz in the JV race, Daniel Espindola was first in 20:19.81; Braden Kram was third in 21:45.79 and Kolby Trejo followed in 22:05.28; Noah Bartos was sixth in 22:14.19; Derrick Rabin was eighth in 23:36.33

For Waelder, Justin Schihab was seventh in 22:47.13, Carlos Reyes was ninth in 23:58.23; Bobby Martinez was No. 11 in 28:32.12 and Jose Nino was No. 13 in 31:53.85.


District 28-2A Meet, Shiner

The Shiner Lady Comanches finished second at the 28-2A meet in Shiner on Monday (October 19, 2015) with 53 points. Maggie Grosenbacher was first in 12:41; Brooke Kloesel followed 12:56; Jenna Berkovsky was No.11 in 14:05; Greta Grosenbacher was No. 18 in 14:57; Sarah Tronicek was No. 23 in 15:30; Jayde Kurtz was No. 28 in 15:55 and L. Rainosek followed in 15:58.

In the varsity boys’ race for Shiner, N. Matthew was ninth in 19:32; Bobby Stasney was No. 12 in 20:19 and Devon Watson followed in 20:21.

In the JV girls race for the Lady Comanches, Kelsey Cowan was second in 15:59, Gloria Castillo followed in 16:07; Keely McCarthy was sixth in 17:06 and Stevie Peters followed in 17:14.

Because the top three teams and top 10 individuals in each district meet qualify, the Lady Comanche girls team as well as Noah Matthews for the boys advanced to the Region IV Cross Country Championship Meet on the campus of Texas A&M Corpus Christi next Monday, October 26th.
