Ganado at No. 4 Shiner
The Shiner Comanches will see a different offense this week as they host Ganado.
"We are going from a spread attack and speed to a physical, power running game," Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said. "It will be different than playing Refugio (Shiner's last game)."
"Our games with Ganado over the years have been tough and I don't expect anything different in this one."
The Indians like to line up in double-tight end I formations, and run the power, sweep, trap and lead.
"Their offensive line is not typical Ganado size this year but they are quick and tough," Cerny said.
Ganado's offense will be led by running back Matthew Sterling, the current district rushing leader and fullback Jacob Foltyn.
"Our defense will need to stay low and the line needs to have a good game. Their offense is similar to ours," he said. "Our linebackers need to step up on the fullback when he blocks on the lead play.
Ganado runs the '27' on defense and it caused Shiner some pains last year.
"We had trouble moving the ball in the first half of last year's contest," Cerny said. "It is crucial for our line to pick up their defensive stunts."
Key defensive players are end Mark Macha, linebacker Bobby Garcia and defensive back Caleb Thedford.
