Shiner at Rice
The No. 4 Comanches travel to speedy Rice Consolidated squad at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, September 25, 2015).
"Rice has a lot of speed that we are going to need to slow down," Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said. "They really moved the ball on us in last year’s game.
The Blue Raiders run a balanced spread attack.
Their offense is led by running back Marcus Cooper but it is uncertain on whether Cooper will play or not.
Rice likes to throw short and long passes, and will execute zone read and counter trey in the running game out of the spread.
Cerny wants to see the Comanche offense execute well.
"We seem to have been hit by penalties and turnovers," he said. "We want to work to eliminate those."
Key players for Rice’s defense are defensive back Christian Gonzales and linebacker Ashton Pavul.
The Comanches are off next week before playing Refugio on Oct. 9.
"We are ready for a break," Cerny said. "We do not have any injuries but some players are a little dinged up. We want to come out of the Rice game healthy and with our undefeated record intact."
