Don Brubaker, NewsCenter25 Sports Director:

"And now, for one of the marquee matchups in the state, our Howard Esse in Shiner as the fourth-ranked Comanches open district play against fifth-ranked, big-bad, Refugio. A marquee matchup indeed.

"Now, opening drive for Refugio, a good one. Jalen Mascorro finds Les Rhodes left flat, he would evade tacklers for the 23-yard touchdown early in the first. Refugio led 6-nothing, but the extra point was blocked by Shiner's Marcus Rodriguez, as you see here. And it's picked up by Shiner's Chad Neubauer, a big-big play by the Comanches special teams. That's why they call them 'special teams'.

"Later in the first quarter, Shiner QB Brandon Cerny did a little faking, designed keeper, he picks up about 20 yards. Right there ... nice run deep into Refugio territory. Sets up Shiner's first points of the game, short field goal from Chad Neubauer, and Refugio still led 6-3.

"But, after a couple of Refugio three-and-outs, Shiner put a sustained drive together. Justin Stovall, the ball, fancy-looking run there ... not for alot of yardage. But, it did set up this ... Shiner's only touchdown of the first half. Brandon Cerny keeping the snap, and goes off left guard into the end zone, three yards out. Shiner led at the half 10-6.

"Now, from the Cleanest Little City in Texas, the final ... Shiner wins it 30-19. So, The Comanches go to 6-0 overall, 1-0 in 15-2A, Division 1. Refugio now 4-2 and 0-1 in that division."
